English Language requirement for admission in University Putra Malaysia (UPM): All international students who are going to apply for UPM are required to have Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL) or the test administered by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with the minimum required score below for different levels of study

Students for Master and PHD programs who has the following also can be accepted in UPM:

1. Level 109 for CIEP at ELS Language Centre; or
2. Band 4.0 for IELTS (Academic Training) or 400 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version) only for Malay Language Studies, Arabic, Chinese Literature programme or any other programmes that allow a thesis to be written in the language of instruction.
3. Applicant who has graduated from Public or Private Institute  in Malaysia which is recognized by MQA; or
4. Applicant who has undergone his Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from Institute of Higher Learning in Native English Speaking Countries; or
5. Applicant from any of the following native English Speaking Country and Commonwealth countries:

NOTE: If you do not have above English language qualifications, you can sit for UPM English placement test when you arrive in Malaysia. If you pass the placement test, you would have met the minimum English requirement and start your study at University Putra Malaysia. However, if you have NOT passed the UPM placement test, you will be required to do a compulsory English course at UPM University.
